Your Q4 Marketing Checklist: Get Ready for Christmas Now

September is the point in the year when the run-up to Christmas really starts. For many local businesses, the final three months are the busiest and most profitable of the year, and the businesses that do best are usually the ones that started preparing before everyone else.
The good news is that most of the groundwork doesn’t need a big budget, just a bit of planning. Here’s a practical checklist to work through now, so you’re ready when demand picks up.
1. Update your Google Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing people see when they search for you. Check your opening hours, add any seasonal or Christmas hours as soon as you know them, upload fresh photos and make sure your services and products are listed accurately. It only takes an hour or so, and it can make a big difference to how often you appear in local results. Our guide to Google Business Profile SEO covers this in more detail.
2. Ask happy customers for reviews
Reviews are one of the strongest signals for both Google and potential customers. Start asking now, while there’s still time to build up a steady flow before the busy period. A simple message with a direct link to your review page after each job or sale is usually all it takes.
3. Check your website is ready for more visitors
Run through your website on your phone as if you were a customer. Does it load quickly? Are your prices, services and contact details up to date? Can someone enquire or buy in just a few taps? Fixing small problems now is far easier than discovering them in December.
4. Plan your seasonal offers and content
Decide what you’ll be promoting and when: early-bird offers, gift vouchers, Black Friday deals or simply reminders to book before the Christmas rush. Creating dedicated pages for seasonal offers gives them time to be picked up by Google before people start searching.
5. Map out your social media calendar
A simple plan for October, November and December stops social media turning into a last-minute scramble. Mix promotional posts with behind-the-scenes content, customer stories and helpful tips, and note key dates like Halloween, Bonfire Night, Black Friday and Small Business Saturday. If you’d rather hand it over, our social media management team can take care of it.
6. Get your paid ads set up early
Advertising costs often rise as more businesses compete for attention in the lead-up to Christmas. Setting up and testing your Google and Meta campaigns in the autumn means you’ll know what works before you increase your budget, rather than learning expensive lessons at the busiest time of year. 7. Make sure your tracking is working
Before you spend more on marketing, check that you can actually measure the results. Make sure Google Analytics is recording enquiries and sales correctly, and that your ad platforms are connected, so you can see exactly which channels are bringing in customers.
Start now, relax later
A few hours spent on this checklist in September can save a lot of stress in November and December, and put you in a much stronger position than competitors who leave it until the last minute.
